THE Delta State Police Command is currently in disarray as gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have attacked a Dragon team of police officers along the Ughelli/Warri expressway of the East/West road killing one of the officer, injured two others and cart away six Ak-47 service riffles in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state.
It was gathered that the unidentified officers, 8 in numbers were attacked at Ekrerhavwen-Agbarho junction, killing one Sergeant whose name could not be ascertained, and his head shattered, while two others are seriously injured in an incident that occured at about 8.pm on Tuesday.
A security source from the Delta state Police Command who spoke on anonymous condition disclosed that six (6) service Ak-47 riffles and ammunition were carted away as the officers escaped for their safety leaving their weapons behind.
The source alleged that, the officers clustered themselves in one position without prior knowledge of the hoodlums.
“Some of the officers are currently been detained over the incident.
Efforts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright for comment to confirm the incident was not successful as calls and message sent to him through whatsapp was not replied.
However, a source from Delta
State Command, disclosed that security agents are on the hunt for the hoodlums as mass arrest is currently going on Ughelli North and its environs.
“Do you know what it means with Stealing six AK-47 riffles with ammunition, the senior police source from the state command questioned, one AK-47 is dangerous to a community and we are talking of six for that matter, it is not acceptable.”
